The developer of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has parted ways with Embrisor Group
Sabre Interactive has been separated from Embriser in a deal worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Recent reports claimed that Sabre Interactive was about to strike a deal with Ambrisser to operate independently again. Now, official news has confirmed the validity of the past rumors. Embracer Group announced in an official statement that they have agreed to sell Cyber Interactive to Beacon Interactive. Beacon Interactive was founded by Matthew Karch, one of the founders of Cyber Interactive, for trading purposes.
Embriser and Karch have been negotiating this deal since November 2023, and Karch agreed to step down from managing Cyber Interactive at that time to avoid conflicts of interest in the deal. The value of this deal is around $247 million, with $44 million allocated to settle committed debts. Ambriser also confirmed that a total of 38 game development projects worth $224 million will be delivered in this deal.
The deal also includes the engine technologies of Cyber Interactive and game development tools. Lars Wingefors, CEO of Ambrisser, commented on the deal: "I am pleased that we have found a profitable solution for both sides in the deal between Ambrisser and Cyber Interactive, which will now leave us. This deal puts both companies in a better position for future growth. In accordance with the previous decision of the board, Embracer can now cease all activities in Russia; however, we will support many of the companies owned by the new independent studio."
We retain key companies and valuable intellectual property rights and future publishing rights. Cash flow is improving rapidly, and we remain committed to reducing net debt. The deal provides more opportunities to manage debt in line with banking agreements and improve financial flexibility. This is our first deal according to announced restructuring operations and will be a small but important step in making Embrisor beneficial to all employees, players, and shareholders.
Regarding the deal and the future of Cyber Interactive, Matthew Karch commented: "Over the past four years, I have been honored to be part of the amazing evolution of Embriser as one of the leading companies in the gaming industry. Due to the parent company's efforts to restructure and better adapt to current industry challenges, we felt together that it would be best for both Embriser and Cyber Interactive to separate.
This divestiture puts both parties in a much better position for business development. I will remain a significant contributor in the long term to Ambrisser and will participate in many future projects." This deal will safeguard the livelihoods of hundreds of developers, with whom I have worked for over two decades."
Under the deal, Cyber Interactive will retain ownership of studios such as 3D Realms, Slipgate Ironworks, and New World Interactive, but ownership of other studios such as Aspyr Media, Tripwire Interactive, and Tuxedo Labs will remain with Embriser. Additionally, it has been confirmed that while Cyber Interactive may exercise its option to acquire 4A Games, the developer of the Metro series, the long-term publishing rights for all current and future releases of the series will be retained by Embriser's subsidiary, PLAION.
